What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?

What I find sets Microsoft SharePoint apart from other similar products is its seamless integration with the entire Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Being able to work effortlessly between SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive really simplifies how I manage and share information. I also appreciate how customizable SharePoint is. Whether I need a simple intranet or more complex workflows, I can tailor it to meet my needs without feeling trapped into pre-set options.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I think I really like that its a powerful document management capabilities. It’s incredibly convenient to have version control, collaborative editing, and secure sharing all in one place. I never have to worry about losing track of a file or working on the wrong version, which saves so much time and frustration.

What do you dislike most about this product?

What frustrates me the most about Microsoft SharePoint is its learning curve. While it’s incredibly powerful, the interface and some features can feel overwhelming or unintuitive, especially for new users. It often takes time to figure out how to set things up exactly the way you want, and even then, some tasks might require outside help or coding knowledge. I also find the mobile app a bit limited compared to the desktop experience, which can be frustrating when I need to work on the go. On top of that, the mobile app experience is disappointing. It doesn’t always provide the same functionality or smooth experience as the desktop version.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If possible, start small—perhaps with a single team or project—to get a feel for how it works before scaling up. Make use of its integration with Microsoft 365 tools like Teams and OneDrive to maximize its value and streamline your processes.

Pros

  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Trustworthy
  • Effective Service

Centralizing Content with SharePoint: The IT Take.

Likeliness to Recommend

10 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?

Day-to-day, we use SharePoint for everything from project documentation to team announcements. When we launched a recent internal software initiative, we hosted all the project documents on SharePoint, giving everyone a single source of truth to access meeting notes, development updates, and testing feedback. It cuts down on endless email chains and lets our team access real-time project info on their own time.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I love its customization capabilities. We’ve created several custom team sites that serve different departments—each one set up with its own relevant documents, access levels, and workspaces. This keeps things organized and user-friendly, so everyone finds what they need without sifting through unrelated files.

What do you dislike most about this product?

If there’s a shortcoming, it’s in the permissions structure. It can sometimes be overly complex when we’re trying to fine-tune access for different levels of users.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

SharePoint has made it easier for us to stay organized and connected across departments. The productivity boost we’ve experienced—especially in collaborative projects—has been significant. Our IT department has also benefited from SharePoint’s centralized storage by keeping all our support documents and user guides easily accessible, cutting down on response times and ensuring everyone has the resources they need right at their fingertips.

  • Continually Improving Product
