Versatile Intranet Platform.

What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?

The important difference is the customization power of SharePoint. This can be complicating, but it also gives the organizations the ability to adapt the platform as needed. From custom web parts and workflows, to fully featured applications on SharePoint Framework, the platform provides unrivalled agility for companies who want to develop innovative solutions that are customizable according to their workflow and branding.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I love SharePoint integration with Microsoft Power Platform. From this connection, developers can generate custom workflows using Power Automate, interactive dashboards using Power BI, and low-code applications using Power Apps – all within SharePoint. This allows business users to automate, learn from data, and build an individual solution for a particular challenge, all without needing to heavily outsource it to IT teams, creating an environment of innovation and effectiveness within the organization.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The downside is the platform performance (especially if you are using on-premises or big data). Load times are commonly complained by users especially when accessing sites with many web parts or intricate customizations. This can be inconvenient for employees who need to find information fast or work together on urgent tasks. SharePoint Online in the cloud is getting better at this but, even for companies with specific compliance needs, these limitations may remain when using on-premises environments.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Ensure to take care of user training and change management while deploying SharePoint. The capabilities of the platform are overwhelming so training and continuous support are key to effective use. Consider creating SharePoint champions across your departments to assist your team members in using the platform and showing it off. Regular review sessions and iterative improvements based on feedback will allow you to optimize the SharePoint environment to your business and bring about a better user experience with the platform.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing

Powerful Collaboration with Room for Improvement.

What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?

SharePoint differentiates itself from others in that it’s tightly integrated with Microsoft 365. It’s this integration with products such as Teams, OneDrive and Office applications that ensures a shared environment that allows people to easily navigate between tasks and apps without disconnecting. Easily create and edit documents within Teams chats or embed SharePoint lists in Excel sheets improves workflows and productivity.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

One of my favorite features in SharePoint is its robust document management features. The platform also features powerful version control, so you can follow changes, roll back and share documents without losing crucial information. With the possibility of customizing document libraries with metadata, content types and views, companies can build extremely structured and searchable information storehouses.

What do you dislike most about this product?

SharePoint has a very high learning curve and a not-so-intuitive interface, that’s something I don’t like about it. Although Microsoft has improved usability over the years, for most users, the platform is still difficult to navigate and customization is not always easy. This results in poor user adoption and under utilization of SharePoint’s capabilities as users may not be able to deal with the ambiguous interface or comprehend how to take advantage of its power.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you’re considering SharePoint, I recommend you get started with an overall plan and very specific use cases. Find specific business challenges or processes SharePoint can help with instead of just using it as a panacea. This single-minded approach will let you play to the platform strengths without causing the user any unnecessary burdens. You can also plan and design information architecture in advance of deploying SharePoint so your content and sites have a structured and logical environment.

  • Helps Innovate
