Powerful automation included in O365 licence

Likeliness to Recommend

8 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Power Apps from other similar products?

Its inbuilt integration with the wider office and Microsoft suite means it works incredibly well across those other applications. Also because it’s generally included with existing licences it’s very cost efficient and great value.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Pre configured flows that have been put in place based on specific use cases that can easily be searched and configured to meet your needs without starting from scratch. They have a large list of these which cover a lot of requirements.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It is technically low code. It does really allow people to create workflows with minimal coding but there is a learning curve around understanding the tool that is a bit more steep than some other drag and drop workflow tools. It does allow you to do more powerful processing but I would say there is more of a technical skill requirement for this application

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

You already have access to it in your licence. Start small with som prebuilt flows to understand how it sits together and configure them to your needs. This will allow you to see what it is capable of and how it all fits together without blindly trying to put something together from a blank canvas.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Enables Productivity

A great product with impressive features!

What differentiates Microsoft Power Apps from other similar products?

I think two things differentiate Power Apps: the ability to integrate with nearly any system that has an API through Custom Connectors and the access to/integration with the overall Microsoft framework. There aren’t many limits to what you can accomplish in a fairly short amount of dev time.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect is the speed of development. It truly is easy to get up and running. While there is a lot to learn with creating truly great apps, most anyone can get a functional app created and in use. Plus, there is a very awesome community who are willing to share their experience and knowledge freely.

What do you dislike most about this product?

I dislike how difficult it is to implement a design system. While they are trying to get some theming implemented, I don’t really like where that is going either. Apps should be able to look like they match the company they were created for, not look like a Power Apps app. I appreciate the difficulty in doing this but I think more effort needs to be put in easing the design process to match a company brand.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you are in the Microsoft ecosystem, just pull the trigger. While the licensing costs can seem a bit high, what you get for that spend is incredibly useful. If you aren’t in the MS ecosystem, it is worth taking a look but it might be a bit more work to fully integrate with what you use. And that ‘bit more work’ will definitely result in some easy wins.
