Lots of features - but it's no quickbooks

What differentiates FreshBooks from other similar products?

This product is completely web based in the cloud. It's relatively cheap compared to other solutions and the user interface is easy to navigate. It's also very easy to customize the templates for invoicing, which is what this product seems to be centered around.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The invoicing feature is great and the templates are super clean and professional. Being cloud based means no clunky software and it can be accessed easily from anywhere or their app.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Many of the features are somewhat bare bones and don't offer a lot of variables or adjustments. We were using it for commercial leases (billing the tenants) and in our state the sales tax changes based on county. There is no way to override or set a different rate based on the individual invoice. Lots missing features like that can make this product a headache or impossible to implement in certain businesses. We had to change to quickbooks to resolve the issue.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Your experience will be hit or miss with this product based on your industry and its accounting practices. For 99% of small businesses it's fine. But if your midsize+ or have accounting quirks in your industry, you may need a different product.

Pros

  • Respectful
  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
