PTC Windchill on the Verge of Consolidating PLM and ALM
PTC has consolidated its Integrity brand of requirements management products into its Windchill product lifecycle management platform (PLM) platform.
- New functionality in Windchill includes built-in tracing between its product data management, systems engineering, requirements management, source code management, and testing.
- All of this functionality was available in PTC’s Integrity requirements management product, but it required a separate software licencing agreement (SLA).
- The release date for PTC’s updated Windchill platform is expected to be in summer 2019. The now legacy Integrity brand will remain available as a separate module until late 2019.
Our Take
The addition of the Integrity requirements management modules into PTC Windchill underscores the convergence of PLMand application lifecycle management (ALM). Historically, software products and physical products were entirely separate and could be developed in relative isolation. Now, physical products have code that needs to be managed (i.e. smart machines) which has led to common textural artifacts across ALM and PLM (i.e. requirements).
PTC’s update is a step towards making it easier to oversee physical product lifecycles and software product lifecycles in concert. We expect other vendors to make similar PLM-ALM consolidation efforts in the near future.
