What differentiates Zerto Platform from other similar products?

Replication at the VM level and not at the volume level gives great granularity Able to do test fail overs without impacting actual production VMs Can group VMs together in VPGs to ensure continuity in fail over With two vCenter servers and Zerto enterprise license, you can replicate to multiple locations Not tied to any hardware but be aware will need a lot of storage Can start will minimum 15 licenses and add as needed

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Being able to replicate at the VM level

What do you dislike most about this product?

Not able to throttle bandwidth at the VM or VPG level

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Really need two vCenter servers, one at the source site and one at the destination site to ensure recoverability in event the vCenter at the source site is not available. Having two vCenter servers also enables replication to multiple sites. Really need a lot of storage space not just for the replicated VMs, but for the logs which can actually grow to several times the size of the VMs depending on the amount of change and how far back you want to be able to restore to. Zerto says solution needs 5 Mb on the WAN but realistically depends a lot on the amount of change. Most of my VPGs have no problem keeping up but one particular VPG is in almost continuous state of syncing.

Replication for High Availability Beyond secondary copy backup, the solution also manages replication of primary data host-to-host and site-to-site for live failover and high availability.

Backup of Cloud Based Data In addition to targeting backups to the cloud, the solution also has the capability to back up primary data and services already in the cloud.

Replication for Long Term Storage and Disaster Recovery Onsite backup data is replicated and stored to a public cloud (AWS, Azure). Can also include restore-to-cloud capabilities for Disaster Recovery as a Service.

Continuous Data Protection Changed data is replicated continuously and maintained in a journal, allowing an application to be consistently restored to almost any previous point in time.

Backup Automation Solution automates backup, recovery and remediation tasks using RestAPI and CLI to integrate with 3rd party solutions, reduce cost and enforce standards.

Application Consistency Groupings Provides internally consistent protection, mobility, and recovery, including from both short- and long-term retention and for a single/entire VM.

Virtual Machine Backup Automatically discovers and protects VMs as they come online, move, and change. Production VMs are replicated to a secondary data store.

Integration With Storage Arrays Integrates with APIs from major storage vendors (NetApp, HP, Dell EMC) to leverage capabilities in these arrays such as data snapshots and replication.

Automated Backup Testing and Verification Goes beyond monitoring whether backup jobs completed by verifying the integrity of data restoration.
