Easy To Use and Configure but Code Heavy

Likeliness to Recommend

8 /10

What differentiates WooCommerce from other similar products?

WooCommerce is the leading e-commerce platform plugin for Wordpress in the world - so naturally we gave it a look and liked it a lot! Integration was super simple, and the wide ranging availability of plugins that integrate makes it easy to find a solution for customization. The cost is nominal in terms of how robust the plugins are, and the UI is pretty simple to navigate and use.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The simplistic ability to "plug-and-play" for overall checkout features. No back-end coding is required if you're not looking to do extreme customization of the interface or payment processor.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The plugins are extremely code heavy, and they will slow your website down to an extent. There are ways to implement customized JS code to force browsers to not load all of the code on pages that aren't e-commerce related - which we highly recommend doing. You can just search online and there are various forums that people have posted helpful code to do this. Also, if you're wanting to do any customization of the interface, you'll have to create child pages and go from there. However, over time those child pages become outdated as WooCommerce updates, and it becomes a bit of a pain to find the updated code and replace in the child pages.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Overall, WooCommerce lives up to it's reputation as being the most liked and integrated plugin for ecommerce on Wordpress in the world. We recommend using it and even customizing it - you just have to understand there will be a little long term work involved to update and maintain it.

Pros

  • Performance Enhancing

Robust, modular online store solution

Likeliness to Recommend

8 /10

What differentiates WooCommerce from other similar products?

It's easy enough if you know a bit of programming to create scripts to add or remove features. Also, there is a vast library of add-ons that pretty much cover most possible customization needs one can have. Both Wordpress and Woocommerce are also very easy to install and setup, making this combo a very good option for small businesses that want to go online.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The thing I like the most is how I only really need to set it up once and then I can focus on the store part of the business.

What do you dislike most about this product?

My pet peeve with Woocommerce is how it adds to FTB (First Time Bite) for the whole Wordpress deployment. Jus by having it enabled, the whole site becomes a bit slower to respond to requests by the client's browser. This can be mitigated with a separate hosting solution and a subdomain but it's not optimal and may be cost prohibiting for smaller businesses.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you need an online store pronto, lack knowledge of programming, then Wordpress + Woocommerce is a very good and fast way to get your foot on the door.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Helps Innovate
  • Saves Time

Cons

  • Vendor Friendly Policies
  • Slower Product Innovation
  • Vendor's Interest First
