Analytics with Tableau

What differentiates Tableau from other similar products?

Tableau is incredibly customizable it can feel overwhelming. You really can get whatever "look" you're looking for on your dashboard if you're willing to put in the time to build it that way. The number of customizations if by far the best in the industry, but it will take effort to learn and build.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of Tableau is how customizable the dashboards are, and how easy it is to integrate into different data sources and join them. Great tool for beginners to get done what they need, but also a great tool to grow with as you advance to take advantage of all its features.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Customizing the dashboards to look how you would like is very tedious and time-consuming. So many options you have to tinker with, but that comes with the ask I suppose. I wish when you join data within Tableau it was a bit faster. Sometimes I'm waiting 5 minutes just for the data to load so I can start building dashboards.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Try before you buy. Make sure it meets the use cases you're looking for, and you have a resource that can build dashboards because it isn't intuitive.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Trustworthy
  • Effective Service

What differentiates Tableau from other similar products?

Tableau makes it easy to inject data and find information. By creating images with drag and drop capabilities, the software lowers the threshold for engagement and interaction. You can perform queries using natural language processing and you can use AI-powered statistical models.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Tableau likes for self-service analytics, scalable automation, and data operationalization are made possible by controlling data throughout the data and analytics lifecycle. To speed data discovery, understanding, connection, and trust, it makes it possible to combine the power of data preparation and cataloging.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Python proficiency is necessary to use Tableau. The fact that so few individuals are unfamiliar with Python seems to be a disadvantage.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I advise using Tableau to connect to data, no matter where it is or how it is set up, and then to prepare it for analysis.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing

Quick to learn; but a bit expensive.

What differentiates Tableau from other similar products?

It's extremely easy to pick up even if you do not have a data science background.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I love the spatial analysis tools and the built-in map features (e.g., background layers, census data).

What do you dislike most about this product?

It is quite costly and has some limitations in terms of displaying more complex relationships. For basic business intelligence however, it is a remarkable choice.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Definitely consider what your needs are and your team's skillset. If your team is already familiar with other powerful visualization programming languages, like R or Python, it may not be worth it to invest in this software. However, for teams with limited knowledge of data analytics/visualization, it is a great introductory software that you can use to make powerful visualizations.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
