Best CAD software for 3D Modelling and Simulations
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates SOLIDWORKS from other similar products?
The first thing that differentiates SolidWorks is the easy to use features and all the features are placed in a concise manner, that we don't need to spent time for searching them. Another thing is SolidWorks has a design tool library, which has a built collection of all standard parts like gears, nuts, bolts, washers, structural members, pins, locking elements, etc available for different design codes like ASME, ASTM, ISO, DIN, which helps us to save time rather than designing it again and again. Another thing is simulation package, which has all types of simulations we required and animation wizard to view our results in an animation mode.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The best part SolidWorks is that, it is simple and not much prior training is required to use it. Using SolidWorks I can build different 3D models from 2D drawings, I can make different orthographic views based on either first or third angle projections, I can even make assemblies by combining different parts. SolidWorks database has a large collection of materials which we can use for our parts for smooth simulation procedures. Using SolidWorks we can do different analysis like Static, Thermal, fatigue, Flow, Mold, Drop test, Linear, Non-Linear, and many more.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The manual meshing feature is not available in SolidWorks, hence sometime gives unusual results when I wants local stress distribution on the components. The solving time of the analysis increases with the complexity of the part geometry, hence will reduce productivity. SolidWorks is a high end software, hence needs compatible system to run.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
SolidWorks is one of the useful software for Mechanical Engineers, who wants to build different 3D parts, and analyze them by applying the real time boundary conditions in a simple way. SolidWorks has a lot of features and has a variety of simulations which we can choose from, hence I will recommend this software to all who are keen in designing and wants to build a career out of it.
