The scripting language is it's own, but it's pretty easy to learn and work with. I think it's ability to mash up multiple data sources is highly useful.

The lack of a master search. Sometimes the process of publishing and unpublishing to and from work stream to public stream is tedious.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Use it if you have someone pretty capable or who knows VBA. I only had non-VBA experience prior to starting my work with Qlik.
