What differentiates Progress MOVEit from other similar products?

Prior to using MoveIt Automation, all file transfers at our location were completed using batch files (.bat) and sftp/ftp scripts. My manager at the time had previous experience with MoveIt Automation from another job. My comparison would be between the old batch files and the tasks we create today with MoveIt Automation. That comparison would be like a comparison between sailing ships of the 18th and 19th centuries and jet flight today. Batch was a very cryptic complicated language and Progress MoveIt Automation is very streamlined, powerful and straight forward. It adds security, speed and accuracy necessary in the healthcare environment.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The automation capability and integration with VB Script has provided us with unlimited possibilities. If something you need to accomplish with a file transfer isn't already built in to MoveIt Automation a simple VB Script allows you the power to enhance the task. We have applications that produce data files where the receiving system requires a filename format the originating system was unable to create. With a VB Script called by the MoveIt task, we can update the filename to match the receiving system's naming requirements. Another aspect is the logging capability to verify task completion. You can very quickly verify task runs.

What do you dislike most about this product?

There is a timeout that forces a user to be logged off of the web interface without warning after a period of time. It is difficult to update this time out parameter. Once you know how to do it it's not that difficult, but there's no documentation that explains how this is done. You have to speak with Progress tech support to learn how to do it. The other aspect of this I don't care for is that there is no warning. The message that is displayed basically tells you that you've been logged out, not that you will be logged out. It would be nice to have notification of this prior to it happening.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Coming from the environment that we came from I would tell folks that this will make their lives so much easier once it has been implemented. We've been using it for over 7 years now and I can't imagine going back to batch files. For our internal systems being able to move our data from one location to another so easily makes things work very smoothly. In the healthcare environment where we have so many disparate systems generating patient reports (MRI, CT, EKG, Lab etc) having the ability to smoothly transfer these reports into the patient's medical record in a timely and accurate manner is vital to our patient's safety and healthcare.
