What differentiates Jira from other similar products?

Jira is built for agile project management and this is what sets it apart from similar products. Jira provides key features which makes agile project management possible like story points , project views and user stories. All of the aforementioned simplifies the process of tracking project tasks and visualizing project workflow.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Jira's hand in glove collaboration with third party software tools like Gitlab and Slack is very commendable and helps connect different aspect of my departments software development process with real time project management. I greatly cherish Jira's card based segregation of tasks too, as it provides my team with an holistic view of our project user stories.

What do you dislike most about this product?

There is the occasional performance lag when working with large number of tasks / sprints, especially on the web version.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Jira is one of those few project management products that can be adapted by multiple departments within an organisation, due to its versatility.

The most loved and hated software we have ever had

Likeliness to Recommend

8 /10

What differentiates Jira from other similar products?

Jira is unique. There is a lot of complexity to it which doesn't do perfectly, but there is really not much else out there that solves for it. Currently this is indespensible for managing and tracking the work happeining in agile teams in large organisations, but its really lacking in some of the essentials such as cost management.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Its great to have all the work being tracked in one place. I have learned JQL and can easily find and create views of things that are of interest to me, but most people need a lot more simpler interface. Its a tool for technology and widely rejected by business users. It needs a lot of love to be able to get business to use it.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Its just difficult and not all things work properly. Things are hidden in endless menus, and managing and controlling permissions is a challenge. I am not sure if there are any product designers or service designers working at Atlassian, but there really needs to be a complete revisit on how they have approached the usibility of this platform.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

In a smaller company you can probably do without Jira, but as soon as you are running 10+ tech squads tracking their work starts becoming really challenging. There really isnt much out there that can service delivery an enterprise technology org like Jira for now.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Helps Innovate
  • Enables Productivity
  • Caring

Cons

  • Charges for Enhancements
  • Under Delivered
  • Commodity Features
