It's all in one place and keeps the essence of what you expect from Commvault

Having used Commvault for the last 9 years I don't really have a stand out dislike about the product

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

It is not the cheapest on the market so shop around and get demos that this product is the right fit for your business needs

What differentiates Commvault Cloud from other similar products?

The integration that it has with the most famous solutions in the market and the futures that Commvault have depending of the solution that yo will do a backup. You can personalize the backup rules depending of the software

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The integration with the application, virtual environment and cloud solutions. Also the deduplication and compression ratio

What do you dislike most about this product?

For each solution you most pay different package for example if you need a integration with a specific database like Oracle is not included in the base license so you need to pay for it

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Plan what you need to backup and the retention that will need, because based on it is the hardware that you will need. Also, plan what license type will you need and most make sense for your business growth

What differentiates Commvault Cloud from other similar products?

Metallic is sensible for email backup. It’s straightforward to use a graphical interface and it’s self-explanatory, I used to be able to produce our email backup without any help. It has plenty of options like the retention policy that meets FINRA and SEC requirements for money institutions. It’s WORM (Read once Write Many) capabilities that make retention good. I check on the Backup once per week and everything is there. I could go to bed with metallic Backup!

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

It can be integrated into on-premise Commvault information Protection once it’s on Build 21. It’s straightforward to use. It’s a pure SaaS solution and managed by commvault, there’s no infrastructure headache, and customers will fully focus on the provided services only. Implementation is easy.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It is slow once retrieving information. It takes a protracted time perhaps as it pulls data from a distant server in a low-level container. If that can be upgraded, metallic will be on top!

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

The support and the simple use to get up and running with metallic is breath of fresh air. All I had to try and do was put in a quote request, and within a similar day, I got in touch with someone. They were able to get me activated and have my information backup all on the same day. I favor however they will work with little to massive size businesses to make sure they have protection.

Physical Backup for Multiple Platforms Backs up data and system info for non-virtualized systems. Primarily Windows and Linux servers but also, potentially, AIX, Unix and others.

Virtual Machine Backup Automatically discovers and protects VMs as they come online, move, and change. Production VMs are replicated to a secondary data store.

Backup of Cloud Based Data In addition to targeting backups to the cloud, the solution also has the capability to back up primary data and services already in the cloud.

Integration With Storage Arrays Integrates with APIs from major storage vendors (NetApp, HP, Dell EMC) to leverage capabilities in these arrays such as data snapshots and replication.

File Explorer Granular Restore Individual files can be located and restored from backup media without the need for full system mounting and restore.

Application Awareness Application consistent backup and granular restore for application data from core applications such as MS SQL, Oracle, MS Exchange, MS SharePoint.

Backup Monitoring and Reporting Backup and replication are continually monitored for status and effectiveness. Detailed reporting is available on successful and unsuccessful operations.

Backup Automation Solution automates backup, recovery and remediation tasks using RestAPI and CLI to integrate with 3rd party solutions, reduce cost and enforce standards.

Replication for Long Term Storage and Disaster Recovery Onsite backup data is replicated and stored to a public cloud (AWS, Azure). Can also include restore-to-cloud capabilities for Disaster Recovery as a Service.

Deduplication Implementation Deduplication of redundant data blocks is implemented by the solution. Deduplication can be at source, target, or globally (source and target).

Replication for High Availability Beyond secondary copy backup, the solution also manages replication of primary data host-to-host and site-to-site for live failover and high availability.
