What differentiates Canvas from other similar products?
Canvas is very similar to other products, but it’s advantages are that it is easy to use and most of the features I need are available. It is different from other products in that it is much more user friendly than some alternatives. There is little training necessary if you are already somewhat familiar with this type of program.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I like the fact that you can easily copy a course instead of having to recreate something from scratch. It saves a tremendous amount of time, and it makes it easy to prepare a new course without having to go through every step in the creation process.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Some of the features are a bit clunky or take some time to get used to. Attendance can be challenging if you have to go back in time after the fact. The assignment grading feels a bit cumbersome, and could be easier. The home page creation process doesn’t always end with the actual page looking the same as it does in editing mode. Generally, nothing is terribly wrong with any aspect of Canvas. There are just some things that could work better.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
If you are looking for a product that is relatively easy to learn to use and is reliable, Canvas is a good option. I would recommend testing it out by making several test courses to see how you like the process of creating and publishing courses. Overall, it’s a good product that is somewhat intuitive and will answer the mail on most course management needs.
