What differentiates Azure Cosmos DB from other similar products?
Cosmos DB has a distribution available across glob and it has support for multiple models types including key value, graph, column store etc. Also it have best SLA since it is backed by Microsoft. Also scalabllby of azure cosmos DB is really amazing and it scales smoothly based on requirement.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
My favorite part of cosmos db its consistency, in fact is offers as many as five levels of consistency, which means you can configure your cosmos database to strike a perfect balance between consistency and performance. This is very critical and usually not much NOSQl databases provide this feature. Also if you are part of azure ecosystem then cosmos can be integrated with them pretty naturally without much additional configurations.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Cosmos db has a confusing pricing structure, it charges based on RUs utilized. This means you have be pretty accurate in your estimations on number of hits that database will get and this will dictate the final price of the cosmos db. I really wish they have a simpler pricing structure.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Azure cosmos db is higly scalable and available database. Also its performance is almost guaranteed since its supported by Microsoft. But Cosmos DB has very confusing pricing structure, If you do not estimate correctly you might end paying way more that you had expected. It is complex and not ideal for smaller teams. If you are part of larger organization and already have azure ecosystem then cosmos DB would be a natural choice for you and would be the best as well.
