What is Apache Solr?

Solr is a standalone enterprise search server with a REST-like API. You put documents in it (called "indexing") via JSON, XML, CSV or binary over HTTP. You query it via HTTP GET and receive JSON, XML, CSV or binary results. Powered by Lucene, Solr enables powerful matching capabilities including phrases, wildcards, joins, grouping and much more across any data type

What differentiates Apache Solr from other similar products?

its an open source software and driven by community and passionate folks which makes adopting this product super easy and get the help from the folks who wrote it, its synonyms and facted search support is best in the industry

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

synonym and facted search, and very good search query parsers

What do you dislike most about this product?

not much, I liked the product just their documentations can be improved slightly

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

if you are looking for a complete open source search only engine which has proven itself over decade, you can choose it but if you are considering other use-cases to be solved with same search engine like security, logging than there are some other good options available

The focus of solr is mainly on text search where as similar products have few features for same sort of searching

Full-text search capability with ranges and facets

What do you dislike most about this product?

Training material is not easily available.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Consider Solr if you are looking for full text search. you will not be disappointed
