What is Abnormal Security?

The Abnormal Security platform protects enterprises from targeted email attacks. Abnormal Behavior Technology (ABX) models the identity of both employees and external senders, profiles relationships and analyzes email content to stop attacks that lead to account takeover, financial damage and organizational mistrust. Though one-click, API-based Office 365 and G Suite integration, Abnormal sets up in minutes and does not disrupt email flow.

This is a critical security layer in our overall tech stack and it is the easiest to manage.

What do you dislike most about this product?

pricing is a little high, but worth it.

What differentiates Abnormal Security from other similar products?

Abnormal Security appears to be a comprehensive and effective email security tool that provides advanced threat detection and real-time protection against email attacks. Its use of AI and machine learning to analyze email behavior patterns is a particularly innovative feature that sets it apart from other email security solutions.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

AI and machine learning-based threat detection: Abnormal Security uses AI and machine learning algorithms to analyze email behavior patterns and detect sophisticated email attacks that may bypass traditional email security solutions.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Although Abnormal Security is a promising email security tool, my primary concern is that it is still a relatively new product, and their self-support tools are often limited, particularly when it comes to their knowledge base. Whenever our security operations center (SoC) or email administrators have a question, we often need to submit a ticket as the answer cannot be found in the product documentation. Additionally, while Abnormal Security does support some integrations, the level of customization available is somewhat lacking, but this is understandable given that it is a newer security company.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

The Abnormal Security email platform lives up to its promises by effectively removing malicious emails that may have slipped through Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online Protection, all without the end user even being aware that they had received a phishing link or BEC attack message. The product is highly configurable and can seamlessly integrate with popular cloud-based email and collaboration suites, such as M365 and Google Workspace. Furthermore, Abnormal supports several top vendors in authentication security and email security, such as Okta, Duo, and Valimail.

By analyzing user behavior patterns and email content, it can identify anomalies and indicators of compromise that may go unnoticed by traditional security solutions.

The email filtering AI funtion I like it

O365 integration Integrates directly and seamlessly with Microsoft's cloud email service without the need for redirection or change to MX records or SPF entries.

User Flagging of Suspicious Emails The end-user has the ability to flag suspicious emails in their inbox and junk folders.

Bulk Remediation The ability to stop email-related threats such as Phishing, Malware and Spam attacks in mass

Email Account Protection Security measures preventing your mailboxes from being hijacked or intercepted by third party malicious actors.

Anti-Spoofing Protection The service detects when an identity is being spoofed by a false sender and raises an alert, with the option to automatically quarantine the email in question.

Malware Blocking Blocking of emails containing malicious attachments. This may include immediate deletion or quarantining of the emails in question.

Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Service "learns" the organization's email activity/behavior, tuning in to settings appropriate for activities.
